EDPR NA Distributed Generation Announces Promotion of João S. Barreto to Chief Executive Officer
New York, NY, August 1, 2024 — EDPR NA Distributed Generation LLC (EDPR NA DG), the distributed generation (DG) business unit of EDP Renewables North America (EDPR NA), is pleased to announce João S. Barreto has been promoted to Chief Executive Officer as of June 3, 2024. Barreto originally joined EDP in 2014 as part of the company’s Global M&A and Corporate Development team and, most recently, was the Chief Commercial Officer for EDPR NA DG.
During the last 11 years, Barreto led multidisciplinary teams in M&A transactions, including acquisitions and divestments across multiple geographies and business segments, capital markets operations, and strategic partnerships. He also played a lead role in developing EDP’s Strategic Plan.
As part of his coordination of EDP’s Investment Committee from 2020 to 2023, he participated in the company’s expansion of its distributed solar generation footprint, namely through the acquisitions of Sunseap (now EDPR APAC) and C2 (now EDPR NA DG), as well as the through the expansion of EDP’s European business.
